Interview - Reading Comprehension, Level B2

Barack Obama

Good afternoon, Mr. Obama. Thank you for joining us today.

14:00

Thank you for having me. It's a pleasure to be here.

14:02

So, Mr. Obama, you were the first African-American President of the United States. What differences do you see in today's society from when you were in office?

14:04

Well, I believe that there has been progress in terms of racial equality and social justice, but there is still work to be done. We need to address issues like income inequality, healthcare, immigration, and climate change if we want to build a better future for all Americans.

14:08

Those are important issues facing our nation today. Can you tell us about your approach to healthcare reform when you were President?

14:12

Yes, one of my biggest accomplishments as President was the Affordable Care Act, which expanded access to healthcare for millions of Americans who previously had none. My goal was to create a system where everyone had access to affordable healthcare, regardless of their income or pre-existing conditions.

14:16

That's very admirable. And what about your approach to foreign policy?

14:20

As President, I believed in diplomacy, engagement, and cooperation with other nations. I worked to strengthen relationships with our allies, while also trying to find common ground with nations that had historically been hostile to the U.S. I also strove to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

14:24

It's clear that you had a busy presidency, Mr. Obama. And what plans do you have for the future?

14:28

Well, I'm no longer President, but I am still working to make a positive impact on the world through my foundation, the Obama Foundation. Our goal is to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders to create positive change in their communities and beyond.

14:32

That's very inspiring. Thank you for your time today, Mr. Obama.

14:36

Thank you for having me. It was great to chat with you.
