Transitive and intransitive verbs

Transitive verbs
What do they do?
They act on something or someone.
Example: 'She opened the door.' The verb 'opened' needs an object (the door) to make sense.

Remember Transitive verbs need an object to complete their mission.

Intransitive verbs
What do they do?
They stand alone, without needing an object.
Example: 'He danced.' No object needed. The verb 'danced' is happy just being itself.

Remember intransitive verbs don't need a sidekick (an object).

Some verbs play both sides!
Example: 'The dog eats.' and 'The dog eats food.' Both work!

Look at the verbs in the table.
