Practicing summary writing (all levels)

Summary writing
Steps
- Read the text.
- Read the text again and mark the most important facts and information (ask yourself questions such as what? where? when? why? who?)
- Structure the text into its different themes or arguments
- If you find it helpful, you can take notes. This helps ensure you don't quote directly from the text.
The writing process
- Write the introduction (title, author, publishing date and place, text type, thesis)
- Write the body (focus on answering the questions you asked yourself earlier)
- Write the conclusion (this can contain the answer to your thesis, or a main aspect)
Phrasing and sentence starters
- The text is about…
- The author points out that…
- The most important reasons for…
- Another aspect…
- According to the author/source…
- The focus of the article…
