Coping Strategies

Emotion-Oriented Coping
Sometimes you can't change a stressful situation directly (e.g., illness, separation, exam). In these cases, emotion-oriented coping can help: strategies that enable us to manage our feelings better.
Various examples:
| Strategy | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance | Accepting the reality of the situation | “It's hard, but I can do it.” |
| Positive Distraction | Engaging in enjoyable activities to divert attention | “I go for a walk to clear my head.” |
| Positive Reinterpretation | Viewing the situation in a positive light | “This challenge strengthens my abilities.” |
| Seeking Social Support | Talking about feelings with friends or family | “I tell my friend about my worries.” |
| Self-Care | Doing something good for yourself to stabilize emotions | “I treat myself to a relaxing bath.” |
Read the following situations and decide which form of coping is appropriate.
Match the situations with the appropriate coping strategies.
