Describe your media experience
Objective:
Learners will reflect on their personal media usage and compare it with general trends in children's media consumption, particularly regarding a certain topic. The goal is to encourage self-awareness about media habits, recognize preferences and understand parental guidance in media use.
Content and Methods:
The worksheet prompts learners to document their own media usage by noting frequency and preferences in a table. It then presents a short text on a certain topic, focusing on typical activities and the importance of parental supervision for safety and healthy balance. Learners are asked to compare their own usage with the text's information and reflect on their parents' views. Methods include self-assessment, table completion, text comprehension, and comparative analysis.
Competencies:
- Describe personal media consumption habits (types, frequency, preferences).
- Compare individual media usage with general patterns presented in a text.
- Understand the role of parental guidance in safe and balanced media use.
- Reflect on personal reasons for media preferences and parental perspectives on media usage.

Media Usage
Now read a short text. It states how much children use a certain medium. Next, compare this with your own media usage.
Social Media Usage by Children
Children aged 6 to 10 years use social media sometimes. They often use it to watch videos and play games. Many children like to use YouTube, where they can find fun and interesting videos. They also use social media to chat with friends. Some children spend about 30 minutes a day on social media. They often use it after school or on weekends. Social media can be fun and help children learn new things. However, it's important for parents to make sure their kids use social media safely and don't spend too much time online. Playing outside is also important for good health.

The comparison
Compare how you use this medium and how much you use this medium.
Note:
"I use it more / less / exactly as much."
"I use it for these things: …"
"My parents do (not) want me to use it a lot because …"
