Explore the Mysteries of Newgrange

VISIT ANCIENT WONDERS Newgrange, in County Meath, Ireland, is a fascinating prehistoric monument that dates back to around 3100 BC. That's older than Egypt's pyramids! This site is famous for its large circular mound and inner stone passageway that leads to a chamber. It's part of the Brú na Bóinne complex, which includes other ancient sites like Knowth and Dowth. The mound is covered with white quartz cobblestones and surrounded by engraved stones with ancient art.

DISCOVER ANCIENT ART Newgrange is not just a tomb; it's a place full of history and mystery. Inside the chamber, archaeologists found human bones and ancient artifacts. The stones are decorated with spirals, circles, and other patterns that are believed to have special meanings. Some stones even have carvings that are similar to those found in other parts of Europe. The entrance stone is especially famous for its intricate designs.

EXPERIENCE THE SOLSTICE MAGIC One of the most amazing features of Newgrange is its alignment with the winter solstice. Every year, on the shortest day, the rising sun shines through a special opening and lights up the inner chamber. This event lasts for about 17 minutes and is a breathtaking sight. Imagine standing inside the tomb and seeing it filled with sunlight, just as people did thousands of years ago!

PLAN YOUR VISIT You can visit Newgrange through guided tours from the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre. The tours include a re-enactment of the winter solstice experience using electric lights. To see the actual solstice, you can enter a lottery for a chance to be one of the lucky few to witness this event in person. Newgrange is a must-see for anyone interested in history and ancient wonders. Don't miss the chance to explore and discover the secrets of this incredible monument!
