Description
Objective: The overarching learning objective of this worksheet is to familiarise pupils with the literary genre of myth through Scottish legends and to sharpen their understanding of mythological characteristics.
Content and methods: The worksheet begins by presenting two short reading texts on the myths of the selected country. A theoretical information box also defines the literary characteristics of myths, such as symbolism and archetypes. Methodologically, reading comprehension is assessed in the first step through true-false questions. Subsequently, pupils analyse the legends they have read using open-ended questions regarding their mythological characteristics and finally apply the knowledge they have gained in a creative writing task in which they invent their own myth.
Competencies:
- English reading comprehension and the ability to extract specific information from literary texts
- Analytical skills through the identification and classification of literary criteria (e.g. mythological characteristics, archetypes)
- Creative writing and text production in a foreign language through the composition of their own legend
Target group and level: Middle school students
