Das übergeordnete Lernziel des Arbeitsblattes ist es, Schüler:innen die grundlegenden Prinzipien und Kriterien einer präzisen Textzusammenfassung (Summary) im Englischen zu vermitteln und sie dazu zu befähigen, diese Kriterien eigenständig anhand eines literarischen Werkes strukturiert anzuwenden.

Inhalte und Methoden: Das Arbeitsblatt thematisiert die Funktion, den formalen Aufbau sowie die Merkmale einer objektiven, prägnanten Zusammenfassung. Methodisch wird das Basiswissen zunächst über einen Lückentext mit vorgegebenem Wortspeicher erarbeitet. Im Anschluss leiten gezielte Leitfragen die analytische Textbetrachtung an, bevor ein strukturierter Schreibplan (Einleitung, Thesis Statement, Hauptteil, Schluss) den Schüler:innen als Gerüst für das Verfassen einer eigenen Zusammenfassung zum gegebenen Roman dient.
