The adventure begins

After a few days of drifting along, I’ve traveled around 600 miles from Lake Itasca. Wow, what a ride it’s been so far! I’ve flowed through beautiful forests and peaceful meadows, meeting a lot of friendly wildlife along the way. In Minnesota, I saw deer sipping from the riverbank and playful otters splashing around. I even made friends with a curious frog named Freddie. He told me all about the lush vegetation, especially the tall grasses and wildflowers.

As I continued my journey, I passed through small towns and cities like St. Cloud and Minneapolis. The bustling noises of the city were a fun change from the quiet forests. I could see children playing by the river and boats sailing past me.

Crossing into Wisconsin, I noticed the landscape changing. The riverbanks were now lined with tall bluffs covered in green trees, and I saw eagles soaring high above. It felt amazing to be part of this vibrant ecosystem. I can’t wait to see what the next part of my journey holds!

Choose the correct answer for each question.

The second part of the journey

After another few days of drifting, I’ve now traveled about 1,200 miles from Lake Itasca. What an incredible adventure it’s been! I flowed past the charming town of La Crosse, Wisconsin, where I saw more eagles and even spotted a family of beavers building a dam. The tall bluffs continued to amaze me with their grandeur and the dense forests that covered them.

Soon, I crossed into Iowa, where the riverbanks were dotted with cornfields. Here, I met a wise old turtle named Timmy who told me stories of the river’s history. The landscape was a mix of rolling hills and flat plains, and I saw herons gracefully gliding over the water.

As I approached Illinois, I passed through the lively city of Dubuque. The city’s lights sparkled at night, reflecting beautifully on my surface. The friendly people waved as I drifted by, and I felt a warm sense of belonging.

I’ve now completed half of my journey, and it’s taken me about 10 days. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead as I continue my adventure down the mighty Mississippi!

Choose for each sentence, if it's true or false.

The journey continues

After leaving the sparkling lights of Dubuque behind, I continued my journey down the Mississippi River. The riverbanks were now filled with lush green meadows and clusters of wildflowers, their colors dancing in the breeze. I glided past the beautiful town of Davenport, Iowa, where I met a family of playful otters. They showed me their acrobatic tricks and made me laugh with their joyful splashes.

As I flowed further south, I crossed into Illinois. The scenery changed once again, with dense forests and fields of sunflowers stretching as far as the eye could see. I spotted a majestic deer drinking from my waters, and we exchanged a silent greeting.

Soon, I arrived at the bustling city of St. Louis, Missouri. The iconic Gateway Arch towered above me, a symbol of exploration and adventure. I met a friendly frog named Freddie who told me stories of the riverboats that once traveled these waters.

It’s been 15 days since I started my journey, and I’ve now traveled three-quarters of the way. Every twist and turn of the river brings new friends and experiences, and I can’t wait to see what the final stretch holds!
